A TRIP THROUGH THE DESERT – THE FIRST 10 MILES
This is a journal of lessons and observations I came across
during my walk through the second book of Moses, Exodus. You will find here a
list of daily lessons about our walk with God that will minister to you even as
The Spirit of God brings into perspective the varied items reflecting various
aspects of your personal walk with God, ultimately becoming like Christ Jesus.
You will also find some exciting facts about God, Pharoah, the people of Egypt and the Israelites. It is my desire that all who will come along with me on the journey through God’s Word will develop special appetite for the Mastery of the Bible, first, for themselves and secondly to the admonishment of their audience. As you begin your personal trip into 2023, may you find these beneficial in your walk with your creator. Enjoy!
EXODUS 1
1.The faithfulness of God outlives the earthly days of men:
God is able to keep His promises to men even after the receivers of the promise
are far dead and gone.
2.When you decide to obey God rather than human authorities,
He comes through for you to protect and bless you significantly – the godliness
of the Hebrew midwives in their defiance of Pharoah’s decree.
3.God is able to give us wisdom to escape problems, provided we commit to obeying Him to the latter – the answer to Pharoah by the Hebrew midwives when he asked why they were allowing the Hebrew boys to live.
EXODUS 2
1. It is through the braveness and wisdom of common men that
great men arise in the land. So, respect for all men is the least any great man
can offer - Moses' mother and Sister's role in the preservation of his life as a baby.
2. If it lies within your power to ensure justice is done for someone or something, don't hesitate, you may benefit from it later - Moses' rescue of Jethro's daughters and their flock.
EXODUS 3
1. God uses men to help other men. God's intervention in the
affairs of men is mostly carried out by human beings: we need to be conscious
of this in our human relations so we don't unknowingly cut ourselves away from
what God intends to do for us - God heard the misery of the Israelites and He
chose the man Moses, to be their deliverer.
2. God always recognizes Human Authority of all sorts in His dealings with men here on earth. If God acknowledges authority, we must all the more be obedient to them as much as it pleases Him - God sent Moses to Pharaoh for His permission to release the Israelites but also sent him to the Elders of Israel for their acceptance of God's answer to their cry. God didn't ignore the institution of Israel's leadership.
EXODUS 4
1. When God calls you for any task, He gives you a personal
proof of His backing and He is patient enough to answer your questions, He
doesn't cast fear - Moses asked God a series of Questions at the burning bush
encounter.
2. I think God intended to improve upon Moses' speech but his unwillingness made God bring Aaron as a substitute for his speech correction - this single act in my estimation could have prevented the leadership of Aaron in the molding of the calf god for the Israelites, when Moses was away, and all its accompanying woes. The second copy of the commandments wouldn’t have been necessary plus the ripple effects.
EXODUS 5
1. The fact that God is involved in a mission or has sent
you and is with you doesn't mean there would not be challenges and opposition
from men and the devil - Pharaoh outrightly refused the request of God through
Moses and Aaron and in addition worsened the plight of the Israelites; you may
easily doubt the call of God on your life but don't anymore.
2. When you face opposition in the path God has sent you, resort to no man, but God for redress because He has the detailed map to the end of the journey and He shall direct you - Moses returned to The Lord with the challenges he was faced with.
EXODUS 6
1. There are times that men would not believe what God has told you because they cannot see the immediate manifestation of what you claim, but you must keep working, knowing and being sure of He who has sent you - The Israelites did not listen to Moses because of their present harsh labor and discouragement for which he was responsible.
EXODUS 7
1. So far in the encounters Moses and Aaron have had with Pharaoh,
though God had chosen them to deliver the Israelites, He still was giving them
detailed instructions on what to do and what to say each time - when you are on a mission
with God, always enquire of the details on a regular basis.
2. Satan can do some of the things God does but a corrupted version and this is aimed at causing you to lose confidence in God, questioning His All-powerfulness and Sovereignty, and indeed He is! So, when you come to this crossroads, don't lose faith, wait till the end - Pharaoh's magicians performed the two miracles Moses and Aaron did before Pharaoh.
EXODUS 8
1. One of the signs of God being involved in any endeavor is
small beginnings. God can do big things suddenly, yes! He has the power to do
so but in the affairs of men, He starts small to teach us how to go about life
- God made Moses and Aaron request of Pharaoh to allow the Israelites go
worship Him in the wilderness with the expectation they will return afterwards
but the ultimate plan was to move them entirely away from Egypt to a new
destination.
2. The disobedience of a leading figure before God can cause
the suffering of all his subjects with or without their consent - Pharaoh's
hardened heart caused all Egypt to suffer the anger of God.
EXODUS 9
1. God is never quick to judge mankind in their sin - The mercifulness
of God is so great that He was willing to delay His acts of judgement
("Tomorrow The Lord will do this in the land") and also bring to an
end the suffering of the people when Pharaoh though disobedient, asks that the
plague is taken away.
2. Obedience to God causes Him to make room for mercy. Your
leader may attract God's wrath which may bring you some consequences but your
obedience to God can deliver you - Pharaoh's officials who feared the word of The
Lord hurried to bring their slaves and livestock inside against the declared
hail.
EXODUS 10
1. For the second consecutive time in the records of the
Bible, I see Moses flout the instruction of God in the manner God intended to
initiate the plagues upon Pharaoh and the Egyptians. With the plague of Hail in
chapter 9, God asked Moses to stretch out his hand toward the sky but Moses
stretched out his staff toward the sky. And in here in chapter 10, with the plague
of Locusts, God asked him to stretch his hand over Egypt but Moses stretched
his staff over Egypt, however, in all of these instances, the plague happened
though the instructions weren't followed in detail as compared to the earlier
ones.
This makes me realize Moses' failure to honor The Lord
before the Israelites at Kadesh in the Desert of Zin, by striking the rock
according to Numbers 20:9-12, was as a result of his errors in carrying out the
instructions of God with the plagues in Egypt. So, unlike the popular reason of
the Israelites stubbornness causing him to disobey and dishonor God, it is now
clear, it was a matter of Moses' inability to adhere to God’s instructions to
the latter at the very beginning.
The lesson here is, the little errors we ignore today and
gloss over may come back to harm us greatly in the near future.
Thank you so much for for coming by, kindly expect the next episode soon. Kindly leave your thoughts in the comments to help me serve you better subsequently. God bless you in Jesus' name.
